Tailgating the Southern Way

We all know that sports without food are a deadly sin and should be frown upon. In the south especially the South Eastern Conference tailgating is a must without question the only way to do things. All fans of each team have a signature dish they love to have as a pre-game meal.

I am going to start with the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama. With their football team being one of the juggernauts in the whole country their tailgating menu is just as good. Their menu consists of: fruit salad with yogurt, simple grits with toppings, fried chicken bites, parmesan-pecan fried chicken, Roll Tide breakfast rolls and ending with coffee cake pound cake.

Next up the Arkansas Razorbacks’ menu. Arkansas has a pretty amazing menu as well as the University of Alabama’s. Starting with breakfast and ending with the evening dessert the menu consists of: coffee milk punch, ambrosia, cream cheese scrambled eggs, sausage-hash brown breakfast casserole, wooo pig sooie ham-stuffed biscuits with mustard butter. That menu sounds quiet delightful.

Now on to Auburn University where the eagles soar and the tigers roar. Other than shouting out “War Eagle” and many other things, Auburn has a great tailgating menu. The menu consists of: vanilla-rosemary lemonade, sausage, bean and spinach dip, slow-cook BBQ chicken sandwiches, sweet potato cornbread, pickled peppers and onions, simple slaw, and last but not least lemonade pie. This menu sounds like a traditional tailgating menu.

Now on to Gainesville Florida where the gators stalk their prey and doctors play. The University of Florida or known as the swamp has a lot to offer in the aspects of tailgating food. The Florida Gators’ menu consists of: ginger-orange gator tail sipper, gator bait (salsa and chips), Cuban black bean dip, poblano fish tacos, tequila-lime-coconut macaroon bars.

Next up from Athens Georgia it is the University of Georgia of Athens home of the bulldogs. The UGA bulldogs are down right one of the best tailgating spots around. The bulldogs have a pretty good menu to watch some sports. The menu consists of: hot spiced boiled peanuts, baked Vidalia onion dip, sweet heat hot dogs, root beer baked beans, and peach melba shortbread bars.

No matter how you slice it, the south was meant for tailgating and sports. This was just a warm-up of what the SEC has to offer at tailgating. The rest of the teams will be mentioned and best is yet to come.
